Week 12

Today was the day of changes. We received the news of who's leaving and who's staying lastnight. I had no idea what was going to happen but Elder Brough and I are both staying here as companions for another change but he's district leader now. A lot of changes were made in our zone and I now have the opportunity to meet more missionaries.

This last week was kind of crazy for a lot of reasons but it was also a good one. Down here they don't celebrate Easter but they have Semana Santa. Basically they just do family stuff and travel and the Catholic church has a bunch of parades. It was interesting haha! On saturday and Sunday we had stake conference and it was specifically for Ecuador. Elder Holland and Elder Scott talked and a few other members from the area 70's. It was all in spanish but I could understand pretty much everything. Elder Holland tried to speak spanish throughout his talk and he knew the words, but his accent was horrible. It was funny! We were all able to learn a lot and it was great to be able to listen to them speak again.

The spanish is coming along more and more everyday but during this change I’m really going to focus on improving my Spanish. The food down here is good and I’m starting to crave rice now which isn't good haha! Nothing else too crazy has happened like last week. I hope all of you had a great Easter and I hope you all are doing good.

I want to share some scriptures with you that I found in my studies this week. D&C 88:63-64,118-119,123-126. It was better than it looks and yes thats the back end of a fish that I had to eat :P

Pouch Mail

Pouch mail is a service provided by the LDS church. Items are sent via USPS to church headquarters where they are forwarded to the missionary by a private courier along with other church mail. Pouch mail leaves every Friday. Only postcards or one-page correspondences (no envelopes) written on one side of the page may be sent. No photographs.

Letter folding instructions when using the pouch mail service. Lay the letter blank side down. Fold the bottom of the letter about one-third of the way up the page and crease. Fold the top of the letter to the bottom of the first fold and crease. Secure the long side with two piece of tape about one inch from each end, but do not seal the ends. In the top left corner write your name and return address. Affix first class postage in the top right corner. In the middle write the missionary's address as follows:

FREE LETTER SENDING

Go to www.dearelder.com and set up an account. This is a free service. They will send the letter via pouch mail for you. Make sure you select the Ecuador Quito mission, not the Quito North mission. Follow the instructions. It is very simple!

If you are wanting to send a dearelder.com letter to the Mexico MTC, it is also free. What you need to do is from the home page at dearelder.com under "send stuff" select Pouch (free) from the left columnon. On the next page scroll to the bottom and click search for your mission maually. scroll down to the Mexico MTC and click on "write letter". I'm not sure why you have to do it this way. Hope it helps:)

Packages may not exceed 4 pounds AND MUST carry a green sticker, even if the post office workers suggest you use a white one. It must have this customs declaration on the package, or it will not be accepted in Ecuador.

DO NOT SEND PACKAGES BY PRIORITY MAIL OR FEDEX. These will automatically go to "mail jail", requiring a special trip to the post office and payment of a large fee. All of which will cause a long delay for Kaiden to receive the package.
